2008 Annual Report – Message from the Director

“We recognize that the successes of the past year would not have been possible without the many members of the disability community working together and for this we thank you.”

As I look back on 2008, I reflect on another year of exciting programs and impressive public policy initiatives for individuals with developmental disabilities.  The highlights were many, and included the launch of the Institute for Innovative Transition at the University of Rochester’s Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) at Golisano Children’s Hospital, a Pet-assisted therapy program offered by Lollypop Farm, drama and music therapy classes, a variety of summer camp programs and expanded recreational opportunities, among others.

I look forward to 2009 being just as impressive – as individuals, families and service providers begin developing new and exciting proposals for funding consideration.  Already in the works is a full line-up of programs planned by the Institute for Innovative Transition for increased community education and participation.  Along these lines:

The Golisano Foundation is looking to expand local program offerings by bringing other successful national programs for the developmentally disabled to the area. We will keep you posted about these opportunities and upcoming community events through our Web site.

The Foundation recognizes that the successes of the past year would not have been possible without the many members of the disability community working together and for this we thank you.

As we look to next year we cannot ignore this time of economic uncertainty. We will remember that many members of our family have been affected by the economic downturn and may face new problems and challenges.  The Golisano Foundation stands with you and is committed to using its resources and ingenuity to support programs and services for those with developmental disabilities.
